The Department of Astronomy at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, and the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade invite you to the official opening of an unprecedented international project of great importance for space research. The event, titled “Rubin Observatory: First Look into the Universe”, will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 4 PM, in the Great Hall of the Belgrade Youth Center.
The launch of the new observatory, aimed at mapping and exploring the sky in ways previously unimaginable, will be marked by the premiere presentation of its first revolutionary images, accompanied by a panel discussion highlighting the significant role and contributions of local scientists in the realization of this project. The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is named after the renowned American astronomer who provided the first concrete evidence in the study of dark matter.
The opening of this leading global astronomical project will be celebrated worldwide, in line with the international nature of the project, which involved many countries, including Serbia. The event will mark a new era in astronomy and astrophysics and the beginning of a ten-year mission during which the Rubin Observatory will map the night sky using instruments and methods never before seen in science.
We invite you to join us in celebrating this great day for the global astronomical community and to look together into the future of space exploration at the event “Rubin Observatory: First Look into the Universe”, on Monday, June 23, at 4 PM, in the Great Hall of the Belgrade Youth Center. Admission is free.
The event is organized by the Department of Astronomy at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, and the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade, with the support of the Belgrade Youth Center and the Center for the Promotion of Science.
