An official ceremony for the signing of a Memorandum of understanding between the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade, Serbia, and DFH Satellite Co., Ltd. from Beijing, People’s Republic of China, concerning cooperation on the development of the MOSAIC satellite project, was held at the premises of the Ministry of science, technological development and innovation of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade.

The Memorandum was signed by Prof. Dr. Luka Č. Popović, Director of the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade, and Dr. Xiao Tao, President of DFH Satellite Co., Ltd., which operates within the China academy of space technology (CAST). The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of science, technological development and innovation of the Republic of Serbia, as well as representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia.

The Memorandum of understanding represents an important step toward long-term cooperation between Serbia and China in the field of space technologies. It enables further transfer of knowledge and technology, training of domestic experts, and provides a foundation for the development of small satellites in Serbia, including the establishment of satellite technology laboratories within the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade. This document creates a framework for continued cooperation following the completion of the bilateral scientific and technological cooperation project between Serbia and China for the period 2024–2026, involving these two institutions, titled “Conceptual design of the first scientific CubeSat in Serbia for Solar observation”, which commenced in august 2024. The project is led by Dr. Milan Stojanović from the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade, in collaboration with Chinese partners led by Dr. Tan Tian from DFH Satellite Co., Ltd.

As part of their visit to Serbia, the Chinese delegation visited Niš on March 18, where meetings were held at the Science and technology park and the Faculty of electronic engineering.

Finally, in addition to establishing scientific cooperation, the visit was also used to present Serbia, its natural environment, and its cultural heritage. During their stay, members of the delegation visited the Nikola Tesla museum and the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, as well as the Skull tower and the Mediana archaeological site in Niš.
